Executive chef / co-owner Uriel Gonzalez began his culinary career at the tender age of 13, where he learned to cook Mexican food from his grandfather in his hometown in Michoacan, Mexico.
After coming to this country, Uriel gained invaluable experience working as an understudy to veteran master chefs in upscale restaurants in Palo Alto and Los Altos. In 2002, Uriel entertained the idea of starting a restaurant on his own. After consulting with family members, a decision was made to start a family run restaurant under Uriel's direction and expertise.
Very fortuitously, while looking through the newspaper one day, Uriel came across an ad for a restaurant for sale. The address was 1010 Doyle St, Menlo Park.
The rest is history. After purchase of the restaurant, and after extensive remodeling with concerted help from the rest of the Gonzalez family, Cafe Del Sol Mexican restaurant was born into the cradle of downtown Menlo Park.
